Canterbury Choir
Canterbury is fortunate to have a semi-professional choir in residence for the weekly 10:30 AM celebration of the Eucharist. This choir also sings several times per year for special services such as the Thanksgiving Service (held each year, the day before Thanksgiving), the Christ Mass (Dec. 24th at 11:00 PM, with a concert presented by the choirs at 10:30 PM), Ash Wednesday, Easter Vigil (held at Canterbury the night before Easter Sunday) and other services as needed. The choir, or a smaller ensemble from it, is also available for weddings and funerals when requested, depending on the date and other obligations. Contact the Director of Music for more information.
The Canterbury Chancel Choir sings at the 10:30 AM Sunday Eucharist. This dedicated group of 12-14 singers is the backbone of the music program. The Chancel Choir is made up of folks from different ages and experiences, with half of the membership comprised of music majors from the neighboring University of Alabama and half from the parish. This choir rehearses each Wednesday night from 7:00-8:15 PM in the choir room and sings each Sunday morning throughout the year, save a short break in the summer. Those interested in joining this choir are asked to meet with the music director so he might explain the commitment required and the current needs of the choir. While no auditions for volunteer singers are required, the abilities to match pitch, sing in tune and blend with the other voices are necessary!

Our Organ: The
1974 Holtkamp Organ
The 1974 Holtkamp organ at Canterbury is a mechanical action instrument of 28 ranks over two manuals and pedal. Designed in collaboration with Fred Hyde (then organist at Canterbury) and Warren Hutton (then Professor of Organ at the University of Alabama), this organ was used not only in worship, but also as a teaching and concert instrument for the University.
